Man, just curious, you subscribe to my site and the first 5 posts of your site I ever see slam 4 of the greatest men of the faith whom I admire deeply. What gospel do you believe in?…b/c if that’s your stance, your “gospel” is a mess (and not what Christ preached).
Ummmm alright, well ^^ that was not the way to approach that on my part. I apologize. I guess my question stems from curiosity at where you’re coming from, I def am not looking to pick a fight, you seem to have some strong ideas… I def have to disagree with the opinion of MacArther, Piper, etc. that seems to be advocated here…but I was curious what made you think the way you do.
I seriously have no idea what your beef is here. Do you like any preachers? What MacArthur is saying is the same thing that Paul wrote in Romans, that through Creation we have all have the opportunity to know about God. That’s a biblical stance. The problem is that we DON’T do anything with that knowledge. We exchange the Truth of God for a lie and worship the Creator instead of the Creation. But God has made it plain in Creation that He exists. That is all that MacArthur is saying (and I’m not his biggest fan…I actually think he’s too conservative). He’s not talking about saving faith or the Gospel, but about the common grace we are all given where the truth of God is evident in Creation.
Also, what he said about knowledge of God and knowledge of the Gospel not being enough to save you is absolutely correct. People can know the Gospel…the devil knows the Gospel. But unless the spirit moves your heart and affections to worship Him and act in faith upon that truth, you will not be saved. Knowledge is never enough. I think MacArthur, while being too strict for my tastes, is a very smart and correct theologian. And I think John Piper does a better job preaching the truth of joy in the Gospel and true life found only in the joy of knowing God and making Him known than anyone else.
