  • Ponter Denies Trinity

David Ponter writes, “God must love the good in man, even reprobate man, as he is an image bearer, which is not annihilated. God also expresses his love in his call and offer of Christ to all … The expiation is sufficient for all because it bears a legal relationship to all, he suffered for all, sufficiently. Suffered what? The wrath of God, of course. The wrath of God against what? Sin. As Edwards says, Christ made a sufficient satisfaction for *all* and for all sin.” (D. Ponter 17th May 2005)

Ponter asserts that Jesus Christ died for everyone without exception, so that, some people for whom Christ died, will end up in hell. Yet, John 6:39 says that God the Father wills everyone to be saved for whom Christ died. Thus, Ponter believes in a god, where the “son” violates the will of his “father”. Ponter’s “son” was not able to save everyone the “father” wanted to be saved. According to Ponter, there are people in hell, that “god” the “father” willed to be in heaven, but “god” the “son”, could not save. What a pathetic “christ” (another christ)  Ponter worships, who violates the will of his “father”.

Ponter makes God the author of sin. Firstly, his “god the son” died for everyone, yet “god the father” only draws a few of those for whom the “son” died. The “father” withholds some people from their purchaser “christ”, who bought them with his own blood, having paid the price into his “father’s” hand. Ponter’s “father” denies salvation to some for whom the “son” died, “sinning” against the son. Ponter’s god authors sin, because the persons of his “trinity”, sin against one another. Moreover, Ponter’s “god” breaks his promises. Take a moment to read Isaiah 53:5-12 and keep in mind that Ponter’s “god” breaks all of these promises, because some for whom his “christ” died for will not receive these promises. The true Christ of the Bible, “was wounded for our transgressions; [He was] bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him … But Jehovah pleased to crush Him, to make Him sick, [so that] if He should put His soul as a guilt offering, He shall see [His] seed; He shall prolong [His] days, and the will of Jehovah shall prosper in His hand. He shall see [the fruit] of the travail of His soul; He shall be fully satisfied. By His knowledge the righteous One, My Servant, shall justify for many, and He shall bear their iniquities. Because of this, I will divide to Him with the great, and with the strong He shall divide the spoil; because He poured out His soul unto death; and [He] was numbered with those transgressing; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for those transgressing” (Isaiah 53:5-12).

The True Christ can also say: “And this is the will of the Father sending Me, that of all that He has given Me, I shall not lose any of it, but shall raise it up in the last day.” (Jn6:39) Does Ponter believe in a Christ who can say, “I and my Father are one?” No. Ponter is anti-Trinitarian; indeed, there is no unity in a “trinity” where the will of the “father” is violated by his “son”. The God of the Bible, however, has a perfect unity of persons, where God the Father will draw all the elect, so that none for whom Christ died, will end up in hell (John6:37). In the Trinity of the Bible, there is no failure on the part of the Son to satisfy the will of His Father, (in fact, the wills of the Father and the Son are one and the same). Clearly, Ponter does not believe in this Trinity, because everyone who believes in this Trinity, believes in a Christ who can say, “all that He has given Me, I shall not lose any” of them. Ponter is a rank Atheist, for he does not believe in the God of the Bible.

  • painting this picture of Arminians is false. Most do not beleive what this man believes and calling Arminians the “weaker” brethren is ridiculous.

  • Yeah you need to lay off Arminians bro, they’re going to Heaven too. You are being too divisive and you are using your theology as a weapon to destroy and divide Christians.
“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.” 1 John 2:9

Ponter is NOT a rank atheist, just because his view of God is different. He believes in a God, just not the triune God, so by definition, he is NOT atheist. You really need to chill.

  • Not only have you come up with every possible lie about Arminians, you have dishonored Christ by putting a doctrine in His place.  Salvation is through Christ ALONE – NOT through correct theology.  John 3:16……Did you forget already?  What makes you think that once one is saved, the Holy Spirit somehow gives them a correct understanding of everything?  Christians are not perfect; being right about everything is not a side effect of salvation.  For instance, I am convinced that both I and the guy who commented above me (ILoveJohnCalvin) are saved, but we strongly disagree about theological matters.  One of us is still wrong.

The one thing Calvinists tend to do more often is to try to force their theology on others as if it makes some sort of a difference in their salvation.  Being right about everything seems awfully important to a lot of them.  You never, ever see them saying that they could possibly be wrong, when I and most of my Arminian friends will willingly admit that we may be wrong, and I won’t be brokenhearted if we are (although, I will be a bit horrified).  Forgive me for stereotyping, but it is almost impossible to deny this.  Go to Google and search for “Arminianism”, and you will find about twelve websites calling it a heresy/arguing against it for every one site you find defending it.  Then look around Xanga.  You will find about fifty Xangas dedicated to “proving” Calvinism is true for every one Xanga you find advocating or defending Arminianism.

And yes, you ARE a hyper-Calvinist.  A very important hyper-Calvinist belief is that only Calvinists are Christians.

My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized into the name of Paul? I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, so no one can say that you were baptized into my name.
    ~1 Corinthians 1:11-15

  • Let me clear a few more things up for you…….

~Arminians DO NOT DENY THE TRINITY.
~Arminians DO NOT DENY ORIGINAL SIN OR ITS EFFECTS.
~Arminians DO NOT DENY JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH.
~Arminians DO NOT THINK THAT THEY CAN SOMEHOW SAVE THEMSELVES.

  • whoa dude, shut up…….arminians are not ur “weaker bretheren”

  • Andrew… Your blogg about speaking peace is not only un-called for, rude, and un-christianly, arrogant and down right insulting. I’m absolutly apalled.

I do not agree at all with what you say, however, i don’t want to dis you, but I’d like to know a little bit more about Calvanism. The God i serve doesn’t sound like the God you all serve. I’ve done some research on it, but… yeah.

If you’re interested in answering, or know anyone who is in answering my questions send me an e-mail, mr.funkhouser@gmail.com

I don’t see how our two Gods are the same, and I’d like to have a discussion about why you believe what you do, and how that compares with what I believe, and why we have differences, etc.

There can only be one truth, and you don’t believe what you do knowing it to be a lie, neither do I. But we both don’t agree. So the truth must be somewhere, and I search for it…

I would, however, get your facts straight about Arminians.

  • Hey, so you left this essay on my guestbook, and I felt inclined to check out your website. And I’m really not sure what to think. I am a Lutheran, born and raised, and I believe above all things that Christ died for the sins of all, those who believe and those who don’t, and that we cannot earn our way into Heaven, because we are all saved by Grace ALONE. I also know that Calvinism, while a Protestant religion, has quite a bit of differnt beliefs than the Lutheran religion, which is why I do not wish to bash you in any way. I just hope to impart some of what I believe onto you. One thing, that I relearned two weeks ago at the Western States Youth Gathering that I attended, is that God asks for little from all of us :

To Love the Lord your God and to Love you Neighbor as Yourself.

    and also that

For God so Loved the World, that He gave his Only Son, our Lord, so that we may not die, but Live Eternally.

(Pardon any misquotation I have written)

God sent Jesus to save all of us, knowing full well that not all of us would believe in Him, yet He still loves us unconditionally. Remember that God created the entire universe, yet he chose us, as much an insignificant speck that we are, to care for and love.

I would also like to address your view of Hell, because it obviously is much differant than mine.

I belive that, believer or non-believer, God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit are always watching over people, whispering in their ear, trying to help them onto the right path. The only thing that distinguishes the believer from the non-believer is if they listen to this advice. Even if you don’t listen (i.e. don’t believe), the advice is always there, throughout your whole life. And, when these non-believers die, they go to “Hell”. I don’t see Hell as fire and brimstone. I see an empty room with a shut door. And no matter how far away that non-believer thinks he/she is from the Trinity, it’s not true, becuase the Trinity is standing right outside the door, knocking, and talking through the door, saying “Hey, you may not want me, but I’m still here, and I’m still waiting, if you want to talk, there will always be a chance.” Our God is a Loving and Caring God, not a vengeful, hateful one.

Well, I hope you understand what I am saying, and you know where to find me if you want to agree/disagree/discuss

  • i disagree with alot of what you say. i consider myself fairly calvinistic in thinking, but don’t consider that point to be near as important as you do. i don’t want to offend, just try to understand. how do you justify this increible judgement on so many people? who are any of us to judge one’s spiritual state? isn;t that God’s job? and another question i have with your view on salvation and arminians. i know a pastor who was a five point calvinist for years, but after years of prayer ended up leaning more towards arminianism…was he never saved? did he loose it? i really am not trying to trap you, i just want to understand the facination with condemning so many people to hell based on doctrinal differences.
